Day 2 - SRL to Jakes Peak 7/9/22

Steve takes the trail along Stoney Ridge Lake on teh first leg of our adventure to Jake's Peak. Didn't quite know what to expect at the top of Jakes's Peak,…
Morning lupine along Stoney Ridge Lake.
Morning lupine along Stoney Ridge Lake.
One of many cool little snowmelt creeks dropping off exfoliating granite.
The creek meets the lake.
Stoney Ridge Lake. The back end (south).
One of my favorite things in life are trickles of water over rocks. We found quite a few of these on the switchbacks up to Stoney Ridge Lake.
Steve samples the snowmelt. No mosquitos either!
View of Stoney Ridge Lake from the switchbacks heading up to Rubicon Lake.
I found some really interesting mafic enclaves in teh Phipps Pass granodiorite near Rubicon Lake.
My favorite water feature of the day. It was so nice to put my head on the rocks and let the cold water stream around our face.
Steve conquers the waterfall.
A bit unsteady video, but the ambiance is nice.
Pretty penstemon on Phipps Pass granodiorite.
This little amphitheatre of granite talus reminded me of Burst Rock in the Emigrant Wilderness.
Rubicon Lake. Didn't get photos (IDK why), but we saw brook trout torpedo out of the water and snipe damselflies for about 5 minutes.
Tree roots growing in joints of the granite! Mechanical weathering is ongoing as the root grow and further wedge apart the rocks.
